Outside the Listed ZIP Codes?

If your address is near the area but its ZIP code is not in the table, send a request through the Book Service form with your ZIP code and a short description of the problem. The office will tell you whether a visit can be arranged before anything is scheduled.

What We See Across the Area

Grand Rapids and East Grand Rapids have many houses built before the Second World War, and in those the original galvanized steel supply pipe and cast iron drain lines are often still in service somewhere. Galvanized pipe rusts from the inside and narrows over the decades, which shows up as low pressure at one faucet or brown water after the lines sit unused. Cast iron drains scale and crack, and in older sewer laterals tree roots work in at the joints.

In Wyoming, Kentwood and Walker, the housing runs from postwar ranch houses and split-levels to newer subdivisions, townhome rows and small commercial strips. The supply pipe there is more often copper or plastic, so the usual trouble is a water heater reaching the end of its life, a sump pump in a finished basement or a fixture that has simply worn out.

Across the whole area, the season shapes the work. Winters bring frozen spigots and pipes on outside walls, spring brings high water tables and busy sump pumps, and older basements show their weak spots after a wet stretch. None of that changes how a repair is done, but it does change what is worth checking while we are there.
